Devices
More than one computer, and a way back if one goes missing.
Linking a device
On the new computer, Pigeon shows a link code. Enter it on a computer you already use, which then shows a short code to type on the new one, so you know you've linked the right machine. Each device is a full member of your chats with its own keys. None depends on another being online.
If a device is lost or stolen
- Remove it from any of your other devices, at once. The people you talk to see that a device left.
- Use your seed phrase to make a new account key. It shuts out every device you don't keep.
Until you act, someone with your unlocked device could read new messages and send as you, and anything they do shows on your other devices. They can't take the account itself without your seed phrase.
On your computer
Everything Pigeon keeps is in one encrypted database. Its key lives in your system's keystore (GNOME Keyring or KWallet on Linux, Credential Manager on Windows), never in a file.
