Copyright policy
Pigeon respects copyright. If you believe a file stored on Pigeon's servers infringes yours, send a notice to our designated agent and we'll act on it.
Version 1.0, 22 October 2026. Part of the terms of service.
What we can act on
Files on Pigeon are encrypted, and we can't see or search them. We can act only on a file you identify precisely, which in practice means reporting it from a conversation you're in (for example, a message someone sent you). We remove only the exact upload you identify; a copy sent separately is a different upload and needs its own notice. Text messages live only on people's devices, so there's nothing on our servers to remove.
Sending a notice
Under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3)), your notice must include:
- your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or someone authorised to act for them;
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
- the file you say infringes it, with enough information for us to find it (see above);
- your name, address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you're authorised to act for the owner.
Send it to our designated agent:
[DESIGNATED AGENT]
[LEGAL ENTITY NAME]
[POSTAL ADDRESS]
Phone: [AGENT PHONE]
Email: legal@pigeonmessage.io
Knowingly misrepresenting that something infringes can make you liable for damages (17 U.S.C. 512(f)).
Counter-notices
If we removed your file and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you can send our agent a counter-notice with: your physical or electronic signature; the file that was removed (the removal notice in the app gives you what you need) and where it was before; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; and your name, address and phone number, with your consent to the jurisdiction of the US federal court for your district (or, outside the US, any district where we can be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice.
We'll send your counter-notice to the person who sent the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they've gone to court, we'll restore the file between 10 and 14 business days after we receive your counter-notice, if we're able to. A file is restored only if it was withheld rather than deleted; if it was deleted, you can send it again.
Sending a counter-notice shares your contact details with the person who sent the notice.
Repeat infringers
We suspend, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright. Each upheld notice is a strike under the acceptable use policy.
Trademarks
For a trademark complaint, email legal@pigeonmessage.io with the mark, where it's registered, and the file or handle you're concerned about.
